The assault, which occurred late Saturday night, marks yet another grim episode in the worsening security crisis plaguing the state and the broader northern region.

Amnesty International condemned the attack as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a clear indication of the government’s ongoing failure to protect civilians, particularly in conflict-prone areas. “The attack on Government Science Secondary School Raka is a serious violation of international humanitarian law, and it undermines the right to education”, the human rights group said in a statement on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the full details of the incident remain unclear. The number of abducted individuals has not yet been confirmed, but local authorities and security agencies are said to be conducting investigations and search operations in the area.

Repeated attacks and abductions have already forced the closure of several schools in some parts of the northern region, leaving thousands of children without access to formal education.

When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident but requested time to verify details.
